Having learned that the body of an albino child was found in the east of the country, without head or legs, the president of the FMT, Glody Mwimba, said he was outraged and called on the country’s authorities to search for the perpetrators. of this murder so that they suffer the rigor of the law. “We strongly condemn this umpteenth murder of an albino and we expect the country’s authorities to carry out serious investigations, in order to unmask the perpetrators of this despicable act and punish them severely”, he pointed out.
“The 5-year-old boy was abducted on Tuesday evening in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). His body was found without head or legs on Wednesday, probably a victim of occult practices targeting albinos in certain African countries. revealed local sources quoted in the press.
For the coordinator of the association of people with albinism in this province (Apia), quoted by the same sources, ” since 2009, eighteen albinos have been killed in such circumstances, ten albino graves desecrated, while there have been twenty-two attempts to kidnap albinos in South Kivu ».
Glody Mwimba believes that the punishment to be inflicted on the perpetrators of this latest murder of albinos must also play an educational role in order to discourage those who would be tempted to carry out such acts and thus to prevent albinos from being victims from now on. of these barbaric acts linked to fetishism. “We call on the authorities to put a barrier to these practices targeting albinos. The DRC, which is considered as a model country with regard to the integration and consideration of people living with albinism, must no longer back down or be removed from its pedestal because of these macabre practices of certain enlightened people”, insisted the president of the FMT.
He also calls on albinos to be vigilant, especially in these times of major political changes, government reshuffles or elections. “To our albino brothers and sisters, I advise to be very careful, especially when approached by an unknown person. For parents who have children with albinism, you are called upon to ensure their safety with a view to protecting them not only from the sun’s rays, which are the number one enemy of albinos because they cause skin cancer, but also against those individuals of bad faith, who believe that the body parts of an albino have mystical virtues”, he pointed out.
It should be noted that in the DRC and in other countries of sub-Saharan Africa, albinos are the target of attacks. Parts of their bodies are sold for witchcraft rituals believed to bring wealth and power. In the DRC in particular, the murders of albinos have become rare, but this umpteenth case has created indignation and has not left indifferent the successor of the late Mwimba Texas, who expresses the wish that this is only an isolated case and insists so that its perpetrators are identified and punished.
