The items Rema 1000 cuts include:
- Gilde barbecue sausages in two packs: From 79.40 to 58.90
- Leg of lamb: From 139.90 to 99.00 per kilo.
- Oranges in bulk: From 19.90 to 14.90 per kilo.
– But we will see bigger price cuts than this. And there are many more items where the price will be cut, says “Gjerrigknarken”.
Easter goodies
Usually, Easter goodies are a category with a big price cut. Rema has cut back on Nidar Easter favorites and Cloetta Easter foam. But the big seller Nidar’s marzipan sausages in packs of five will probably drop in price much more.
Last week it was reduced by a couple of kroner and now costs 33.80. But at Easter last year you got these for just over five kroner.
– I will be surprised if prices are not cut for more of the Easter goodies. Solo, I also think there will be more price cuts, says Nikolaisen.
But there are already some offers on Solo. And here you can actually quickly get lost. Because at Rema 1000 you can buy a ten-pack of Solo Super boxes for NOK 96.00. If you spend NOK 3.00 on cormorant, you can get the pack of 16 boxes instead. Little doubt about what gives the cheapest price per litre, in other words.
– There is a lot of soloing around Easter time and that is why we have pallet sales where we have bought in large volumes of Solo Super in 16-packs, which we hope our customers appreciate, says sales and marketing director, Pia Mellby to Nettavisen.
Easy to miss oranges
Another product that can be easily missed is oranges. All the chains sell these in bulk, but often have additional nets of either one or two kilos. At Rema 1000, the price of oranges in bulk is 14.90 after the price cut. At Extra, the corresponding price is 19.90, but they also have oranges in two kilo nets for 19.90.
It is very important for grocery chains to make their mark in the run-up to Easter.
– Easter is important to Norwegians and we want to make the final sum of the Easter shopping as low as possible. The price cut is in addition to our 1,000 frozen prices and will last until after Easter, says Melleby.
– Checking prices
Kiwi and Extra also have several Easter offers in their campaign newspapers this week.
– Today we started our Easter campaign, says director of communications at Kiwi, Kristine Arvin.
Kiwi has also adjusted prices after Rema made its cuts. Among other things, oranges have been reduced to the same price as at Rema.
– In addition to pushing the prices ourselves, we check prices and campaigns at our low-cost competitors every day, says Arvin.
Extra has also cut prices on several items.
– We are heading into a time of year where there is usually fierce price competition for typical Easter goods. Everything indicates that it will also happen this year, says chain director Håvard Jensen in Extra.
– We have cut the prices of quick lunches, tulips and a number of other classic Easter items, says Jensen.
He confirms that they keep a close eye on the low-price competitors.
– We always follow the low-cost competitors on price, says Jensen.
Dragging to the last week
Nettavisen follows the grocery industry closely and the price tests carried out around Easter last year show that it was only in the last week before Easter that the price war really took off.
The stingy junkie thinks it’s a good idea to have ice cream in your stomach.
– I have seen someone comment that it is important to shop while the products are available. I think that’s nonsense. I don’t bite on it. I’m waiting with the Easter shopping, says “Gjerrigknarken”.
