Berlin. The Balearic Islands no longer count as a risk area since Friday lunchtime. Due to the persistently low incidence rates, the Robert Koch Institute has updated its assessment for the Spanish archipelago and other regions. This automatically eliminates the travel warning – vacationers no longer have to be in quarantine when they return to Germany, and the obligation to test is also eliminated. However, a negative PCR test result and registration are still required for entry into Spain.
At the beginning of the week, several travel companies announced that they would allow Easter holidays on Mallorca and the neighboring islands – and thus put pressure on politicians. The popular holiday area has been reporting significantly lower infection rates than in Germany for a long time. “The lifting of the travel warnings is the logical consequence of the significantly lower incidence, which has been below 50 for weeks on Mallorca and is currently at 21,” said the President of the German Travel Association, Norbert Fiebig.

There is a strict mask requirement in Mallorca. Restaurants and cafés can open their outdoor areas until 5 p.m. and with limited space; from next Monday indoor areas can also be used. Large sales areas such as shopping centers and department stores can now also open on Saturdays.
For mainland Spaniards, however, Easter holidays are prohibited on Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca. You are only allowed to cross the borders between the regions from March 17th to 21st and from March 26th to April 9th only in exceptional cases and for good reason.
As the largest German organizer, TUI advertised offers for Easter holidays in a three-star hotel on Mallorca from 349 euros on Thursday. The first flights are now scheduled to start on March 21 from Hanover, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. DER Touristik – including the brands Dertour, ITS and Jahn Reisen – followed suit on Friday. There is a week in a first-class hotel from 669 euros – including flight, transfer, breakfast and PCR tests for the outward and return journey. FTI and Alltours also want to expand their offers over the holidays.
For the Saxons, the arrival and departure in particular is likely to be associated with circumstances. Airlines are gradually increasing their capacities, but the vast majority of holiday flights to Palma de Mallorca take off from West German airports. Those who leave Saxony either have to change, dig deeper into their pockets or be patient. Condor is offering the first direct flight from Leipzig on March 28th from EUR 300 (one way) and from Dresden on May 1st. Sundair is also currently not planning the first flights from Dresden until May. As things stand, Eurowings will start on April 12th from Dresden and on May 1st from Leipzig. Passenger traffic in Leipzig has been resting since last December, said the spokesman for Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, Uwe Schuhart. Two planes started yesterday in Dresden for Frankfurt.
In addition to the changes in the Balearic Islands, the following new classifications will apply from Sunday:
