Eastar Jet ex-boss Lee Sang-jik has been sent to court

JEONJU, May 14 (Yonhap) – Lee Sang-jik, former boss of low-cost airline Eastar Jet and current Member of the National Assembly, has been referred by the Procuratorate to court for embezzlement, abuse of confidence and violation of the law concerning the political party, this Friday.

The Jeonju District Procuratorate indicted him for causing a loss of 43.9 billion won (about 32.1 million euros) to the airline by selling stocks worth a low price. 54.4 billion won to Eastar Holdings, owned by her children, in November 2015.

Lee is suspected of embezzling 5.36 billion won (€ 3.9 million) in Eastar Jet funds between 2013 and 2019 by registering his family members as employees of the airline’s subsidiaries in the aim to embezzle their wages.

He was also charged with losses caused to Eastar Jet subsidiaries between 2016 and 2018, which reached 5.6 billion won (4.09 million euros), through an arbitrary adjustment of values ​​and loans. .

The total embezzlement and breach of trust amounted to 55.5 billion won (40.6 million euros), according to the prosecution.

The National Assembly approved Lee’s arrest request last month, the second case for the 21st Parliament. Lee quit the ruling Democratic Party (PD) in September 2020. In July of last year, the opposition party, the People’s Power Party (PPP), and the Eastar union Jet accused Lee of unpaid wages and bribery.
