“What is happening is that the traffic has been very high for several days. The central problem is the arrival of the holidays, so there are fewer staff. We want to give vacations, it is important, but it reduces the capacity of care in the two hospitals ”, briefly explained Saturday the spokesperson of the organization, Christian Merciari.

At the same time, he confirms that the CIUSSS is working with its partners to “find short and medium-term solutions” in order to compensate for this lack of personnel. Remain in the immediate future, we ask for the collaboration of the population.

“People don’t always realize it, but there are a lot of health issues that can be solved by going to medical clinics in the territory. We invite people to go there for minor health problems, otherwise there will be other emergency rooms in the territory, ”said Merciari.

At all times, medical clinics “offer time slots for a medical appointment, even on weekends,” said the health establishment in a press release, stressing that people who have questions or concerns about their state of health can also contact Info-Santé nurses at 811.

“Even in a pandemic period, it is possible to consult a health or social services professional the same day or the next day without going to an emergency room,” added the CIUSSS, referring to its site to consult the full range of services.

At the beginning of the Saturday afternoon, the occupancy rate of the emergency rooms at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont was 124%, according to the Index Santé portal.

Meanwhile, an “equipment breakdown” also fell on the front-line teams at Santa Cabrini Hospital on Saturday, where the number of users who could be accommodated was adjusted downwards accordingly.
