REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA — Acting (Pj) Governor of East Java Adhy Karyono appealed to the public to promote the movement to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN) to prevent the spread of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD). At the peak of the rainy season, the number of cases DBD in East Java continues to increase.
Based on data on the DHF situation in East Java from January to the third week of February 2024, there were 3,638 people affected by DHF. Adhy also asked for the One House One Jumantik movement to be reactivated, at least once a week.
“By reactivating the PSN movement, it is hoped that community participation and empowerment by involving every family in eradicating dengue fever can be increased. Their role can be by carrying out inspections, monitoring and eradicating dengue mosquito larvae which are the main source of spread,” said Adhy, Monday (4/ 3/2024).
Adhy continued, the community can carry out activities to eradicate mosquito nests by implementing the 3M Plus program. This means draining or cleaning bathtubs, flower vases, pet drinkers, and dispenser coasters. Then close the water reservoir tightly.
“If it is impossible to drain or close the water reservoir, larvicide can be given,” said Adhy.
The third step is to get rid of or utilize and recycle used items such as used tires, plastic bottles and used cans. Then the most important thing is to avoid mosquito bites.
Adhy emphasized that efforts to eradicate dengue fever cannot be done alone, and must be the responsibility of the entire community. Adhy also hopes that outreach by health workers in various health service facilities can be more optimized.
Head of the East Java Health Service, dr. Erwin Astha Triyono admitted that in efforts to prevent and control dengue fever, the East Java Provincial Government has made various efforts. This includes issuing a Circular Letter from the Governor of East Java regarding DHF Awareness and Control on November 29 2023.
The East Java Health Office also admitted that it had written a letter to the district/city Health Office regarding DHF Management and DHF Case Awareness to be delivered to all regional health service facilities. His party has also carried out outreach activities, carried out surveillance of dengue cases in the regions and prepared health service facilities.
Erwin advised that if a family member experiences a sudden high fever that lasts between 2 and 7 days, they should immediately go to the nearest health service facility. “Immediately check family members who have symptoms of dengue fever. The sooner the help, the better,” he said.
