East Harlem school closes on detection of COVID-19 cases

Public school 79 will be closed starting tomorrow, Monday, the 20th, after a coronavirus outbreak was confirmed among its staff.

According to the report, 19 workers have tested positive.

Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer said all positive cases are linked to preschool staff.

The school will be operating with distance learning and is expected to reopen on September 28.

Brewer noted that during closing, takeout meals can be picked up daily at the school campus, or parents can identify a school closest to their home to pick up their meals there.
