East Harlem: Facing Poverty, Gentrification, and Marginalization

It is primarily inhabited by a Hispanic and African American population, with around 115,000 residents. The median household income in East Harlem is $37,500, less than half the county average. The neighborhood faces a staggering 32% poverty rate, more than double the county average. Challenges include high unemployment rates, limited education, and a history of neglect and marginalization. Additionally, gentrification, displacement, and environmental issues are also significant concerns for East Harlem.
