Bad breath and dry mouth

Dehydration can trigger bad breath at once dry. When you are dehydrated, you do not produce much saliva, which helps break down food and rinse it out of your mouth.

“The reduced cleansing action of saliva allows bacteria to grow, causing bad breath,” says Melissa Leber, an emergency medicine physician at Mount Sinai Morningside in New York City.

Apart from bad breath, dry mouth can also be a potential sign of dehydration, though not always.

Experts think that one of the reasons people experience muscle cramps when exercising is dehydration and electrolyte depletion. This condition shows that your body does not have enough essential minerals such as sodium and potassium.

These minerals help balance the pH levels in your body and control the functioning of the nervous system.

Headache

Headaches are a very common sign of mild to moderate dehydration. Dehydration can also trigger migraine episodes.

Researchers have noted that dehydration can actually temporarily shrink brain tissue where it can cause pain.

Dark urine

One easy way to diagnose dehydration is to test a patient’s urine to see if it’s too concentrated, says Leber. This can also be a step to do an easy check at home.

“If it’s pale yellow, you’re hydrated. If it’s a darker yellow, it’s time to drink a glass of water. In general, the more you drink, the clearer your urine will be,” notes the Mayo Clinic.
