Sea view

EA this week rolled out a new logo and a brand new vision for its own Frostbite game engine. From now on, there will be more focus on collaboration with the company’s development studios, says a press release.

Via their websites EA explains that it has spent the last few years getting to know its studios. Now that learning will be baked into Frostbite, to better facilitate what the developers need.

As far as the logo is concerned, there will be no drastic changes. It’s still a handprint, but this time with a more human touch.

– The last two editions of the Frostbite handprint showed the hand in a broken or broken state. This made sense as we emphasized destructible environments in Battlefield, but with the new design we wanted to tell a different story – one about cooperation and the conditions that transform Frostbite from the inside out.

This is how the Frostbite logo has evolved over the years. The newest one is on the right.

At the same time, the company points out that the teams do not have to use Frostbite if they would rather use a competing engine.

– EA’s teams are free to develop games on any game engine they choose. It’s up to us to make Frostbite the best choice for our games, EA stated.

Frostbite first hit the scene in 2008. Alongside the Battlefield series, the engine has been used for a number of sports games. It has also been widely criticized over the years, including during the development of both Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda. From Bioware in particular, reports emerged that developers were unhappy about having to work with Frostbite.
