Scientists reveal Earth’s core is cooling faster
Earth has been evolving for 4.5 billion years. In its history, the layers that make up the Earth have undergone many changes.
The Earth’s layers consist of the core, mantle, and crust of the Earth that are the habitat of humans and other living things. The part of the Earth that produces heat is the core.
At Earth’s core, heat comes from the remnants of the formation of the Earth billions of years ago. There are also other additional heat sources.
These other heat sources will cool down or even stop producing heat.
Researchers from Carnegie and ETH Zurich brought up a surprising new fact. They say that planet Earth’s interior is likely to cool faster.
It is not yet known how long it will take for the Earth’s core to cool completely. However, scientists conducted research on a key mineral that has the name bridgmanite.

The mineral bridgmanite is located between the outer core and the lower mantle of the Earth. The function of this mineral is to transmit heat so it has major implications for the planet.
Since the study could not be carried out in the lab, the researchers placed samples of bridgmanite into diamond cells which they heated with a laser system.
The heating aims to simulate intense pressure and temperature deep within the Earth’s surface.
So that later they can measure thermal conductivity through optical absorption systems.
Finally, the team of scientists found that bridgmanite was more than 1.5 times better at conducting heat. Heat will move more easily from the core into the mantle.
This is what can make the Earth’s core cool faster. It will also accelerate over time as minerals slowly dominate Earth’s boundaries.
Consequences Arising
When the Earth’s core cools and freezes, its internal heat source will be lost. Not only that, the Earth can also lose its magnetic field.

Cooling the Earth’s interior will greatly affect the magnetic field due to the motion of the convection of molten iron. Meanwhile, the magnetic field serves to protect the Earth from solar radiation.
Solar radiation itself is very bad for the Earth. Radiation spikes can cause various kinds of damage, such as a sharp increase in Earth’s temperature and other chronic diseases in humans.
