Earthquake with magnitude 4.9 took place in the Saimbeyli area of Adana County, Southeastern Turkey. The tremor was also felt in the surrounding districts, as well as in northern Syria.
According to the information transmitted by the Directorate for Emergencies and Combating Natural Disasters to the Presidency in Ankara (AFAD) the earthquake occurred at 3:46 p.m. The announced depth at which the earthquake was registered was 6.6 km.
There are no reports of casualties, injuries or serious property damage in the area, but teams are monitoring incidents in the affected county.
Immediately after the earthquake, people in Adana went outside their homes and anxiously waited for any others aftershocks.
The Kandili Observatory, in Istanbul, announced that the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.8 on the Richter scale.
As the effects of the February 6 magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 Kahramanmaras earthquakes continue across the country, the fault in the region is highly active. 2 weeks ago, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded in the same place.
Prof. Dr. Naji Görür repeated his warnings about Adana after the tremors in a message on Twitter.
“These earthquakes are probably due to stress transfer. Movements on the faults descending towards the Adana basin and new tremors can be expected.”
