At the same time, the head of the Geology Department of Pamukkale University, Halil Kumsar, after the earthquake, made statements in which he said, “in general, the activity of this area continues. Depending on this activity, it is possible to experience such earthquakes. Because a large area was broken in the Kahramanmaras earthquakes. Since this is a near-surface earthquake, it may cause some damage to weak structures in the epicenter areas. It is necessary to watch it carefully. There will be some aftershocks after that.”.

Buildings collapsed
Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya, in a post on his social media account, noted that three building collapses have been reported so far in the provinces of Elazig, Malatya and Sanliurfa. He also said that emergency response teams are conducting field surveys in the area after the earthquake.

“There may be building collapses”
The effects of the earthquake are not yet known. However, as Geology professor Efthymis Lekkas pointed out to Mega, there is a possibility of building collapses. While he emphasized that the region is already burdened by past earthquakes and estimates that there will be repercussions.
