Earthquake, Tajani “Italians go to the airport in Casablanca or Rabat” – Il Tempo

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “About 200 Italians are present in the area hit by the earthquake in Morocco, but there are no reports of deaths or injuries”. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told Rai News. “We are in contact with our embassy in Rabat, with the consul in Casablanca and with the honorary one in Marrakech” he added. “We tell our compatriots not to go to Marrakech airport, which is clogged. There will be an official there to give directions. We recommend going to other airports in Morocco, because planes depart from other airports and you can try to return to Italy. We follow the situation minute by minute. The message we send to the families who have relatives in Morocco is that everything is under control by the Italian authorities, the ministry follows the situation in Morocco person by person” reassures Tajani who then reveals that at the moment it is difficult: “to organize rescue operations repatriation at this moment because there is no possibility of landing in Marrakech, the airport is full of planes that were already departing. The advice is to go to Casablanca or Rabat and take the plane from there”.
“All our compatriots are followed by embassy officials who are arriving at Marrakech airport” reiterates the head of the Farnesina. “Civil protection is available to intervene, but at the moment no requests have been received. I heard from Curcio who is waiting for requests from Morocco. The Civil Protection, which is among the best in the world, is ready to be operational within a few minutes.”
