Earthquake Shakes Jakarta, Depok, to South Tangerang

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The earthquake was felt by a number of residents in Greater Jakarta on Friday (14/1/2022) at around 16.05 WIB. The earthquake felt quite large for a few minutes.

Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG) confirmed earthquake activity this afternoon. The BMKG said an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 occurred at 16.05.41 WIB.

The source of the earthquake came from 52 kilometers southwest of Sumur, Banten, with a depth of 10 kilometers. BMKG stated that this earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.

Kompas.com felt a strong shaking occurred this afternoon.

“The earthquake was very strong, it lasted a minute or so,” said Diamanty, a resident of Depok, West Java.
