Earthquake Scientist Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan shared his thoughts on the 5.4 magnitude earthquake in the Marmaris district of Muğla.
Ercan warned that the earthquake is approaching the Anatolian lands in his special statements he made to SÖZCÜ before, “Marmaris earthquake is one of them. The fact that the depth of the earthquake was 67 kilometers indicates that this is entirely on the submerged belt. So I am a derp on the plunge-sink belt. Therefore, it will not be destructive. ”

Emphasizing once again that the earthquake will not be destructive, Ercan said, “It is not clear whether a larger earthquake will follow. However, in my 50-year experience, I think this is the main earthquake. “It would be surprising for me if there is a larger earthquake behind it.”

Stating that the earthquakes in this region will continue in the coming days, Ercan said, “The seismic hesitation of Crete and Rhodes, Marmaris, Fethiye, Finike and Kaş is high. Çameli and Burdur lakes region and the region that goes up to Afyon are the reservations region for me. Not only Anatolia is tense, the whole world is tense. As I said before, 2020 will be an earthquake year. These earthquake years will last until 2022. Anatolia is pregnant with a magnitude 7 earthquake. I am waiting for 26 earthquakes. ”

For the earthquakes that are expected to continue in Anatolia, Ercan said, “If your house is in a solid place, if it is a solid building, you do not need to be afraid”, and to the people of Marmaris who have experienced the earthquake, “If your house is very strong, it is okay to lie in your house. If you are not afraid, spend this evening in your home garden. So do not listen to earthquake news that will drag you to fear. I am not expecting a larger earthquake tonight. In order for earthquakes to be destructive in Marmaris, it must be greater than 6.4 ”.
