There was an earthquake about 100 kilometers northwest of Tromsø at about 20:50 on Tuesday evening.
This was confirmed by NORSAR seismologist Andreas Wüstefeld at Nordlys.
– We believe the earthquake was a magnitude 2.8 on the Richter scale. Both position and strength are preliminary and we will check more tomorrow, Wednesday, says Wüstefeld.
NORSAR, which is the Norwegian Seismological Research Center, recorded the earthquake at the stations they have in both Karasjok and Jettan.
Wüstefeld describes the quake as a medium intensity earthquake, common in the Lofoten area.

– Shake and people might notice. You can perhaps compare it to standing next to a tram in Oslo. You can feel it moving, but there’s nothing dangerous, says Wüstefeld.
Also local newspaper Vesterålen online he wrote about the earthquake Tuesday evening. According to them, there are several people in Andøya who have reported noise and shaking in the buildings.
– We have not received any reports of property damage or that people have been injured, says Nordland Police director of operations Lars Halvorsen to vol.no.
