The death toll from the 7.4 Richter earthquake that hit Taiwan is growing by the hour. According to the authorities, the dead are currently 9, the injured 821 and the missing 50.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the city of Hualien, where more than 26 buildings collapsed. “He was very powerful. I felt like the house was going to collapse,” said 60-year-old Chang Yu-Lin, a hospital worker in the capital, Taipei.
The quake struck at a depth of 15.5 kilometers as people went to work and school, prompting a tsunami warning for southern Japan and the Philippines, which was later withdrawn.

Thankfully these young lads manage to escape as the earthquake ruined the badminton quote.

Taiwan’s president-elect Lai Ching-te, who is due to take office next month, is expected to visit Hualien later.
After the earthquake there was a power outage, which has now been largely restored as stated by the electricity company Taipower, while the island’s two nuclear power plants were not affected.
