Earthquake in Emilia Romagna today, magnitude between 3.9 and 4.4 – Corriere.it

A series of earthquakes has been affecting Emilia Romagna since Wednesday evening, with epicenter between the provinces of Reggio and Modena. A lot of fear, a lot of people who poured into the streets but for the moment the Civil Protection does not report damage.

According to Ingv data the first shock was of magnitude 4.0, at a depth of 7 kilometers and was recorded a few minutes before 20. A second shock is felt an hour later. The Ingv estimates the magnitude of the latter event at 4.3, therefore more violent than the previous one.

The first movement occurred between the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia, but was also felt in many neighboring areas, up to the border areas of Lombardy and Veneto. The epicenter in the first case it was identified in the area of the municipality of Bagnolo in Piano, in the second in Correggio, a short distance away.

Same framework in Campogalliano (Modena) where the City Hall announces that all activities and services – except for unforeseen events – will work regularly tomorrow.

Many users, on social media, write that they felt the shock in a very distinct but-fortunately-for a short time. The second gasp was also felt in Bologna.

The memory of that event also prompted many people to take to the streets in fear. it happened for example to numerous spectators who were following an opera concert at the teatro comunale in Modena. The music event was subsequently discontinued: the orchestras left the stage and all the audience was let out of the theater.

The provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Bologna were in fact hit hard by two very violent 20 and 29 May 2012: the dead were 28, tens of thousands displaced. The earthquake of May 20, magnitude 5.9 had as its final epicenter Emilia. On May 29th an identical entity shock started from the area between Medolla and Cavezzo.
