The design of cities, in which more and more people live, is the linchpin for many questions of the future. Decisions we make today regarding infrastructure will shape life in cities for generations to come. Now is the right time to take action and make urbanization sustainable – climate and environmentally friendly, inclusive and socially just.
Typical characteristics of urban areas such as high population and building density, heavy traffic and land sealing make cities particularly vulnerable to the consequences of the climate crisis. The global rise in temperature, combined with traditional building methods, leads to urban heat islands, which primarily endanger the health and well-being of the vulnerable urban population. Cities are also responsible for a high proportion of CO2 emissions and consume many natural resources. Graz is also affected by these developments.
The first edition of the new event series of the Styrian University Conference “Sustainability4U – EARTH TALKS STYRIA” is dedicated to the topic of urban development and the central question: How do we want to live in the future? 30. October 2024 von 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. in the FH JOANNEUM:
