Although most users still have extreme difficulty in being able to purchase a GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (and the other RTX 30 series models as well for what it’s worth), it seems that a lucky few are in possession of a large amount of cards. A miner would have built a system of 78 video cards for cryptocurrency mining Ethereum and the estimated earnings are stellar!
As shared by TweakTown, the lucky miner in question bears the name of Simon Byrne. The setup dedicated to the mining of ETH would consist of a grid of 13 × 6 graphics cards, for a total of 78 units of Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 produced by PNY. Each card, at best effort, requires well 300W of electricity for a total of about 23.4kW of power needed only for powering the GPUs.
The source of the news took the trouble to do some calculations regarding the possible gains obtainable from such a system, calculating that Byrne lives in Las Vegas and taking into account the prices of the GPUs. We are talking about an investment of about 100,000 dollars just for the purchase of video cards!

The cost of electricity in Las Vegas hovers around 8.43 US cents per kWh. TechARP estimate the monthly cost in 2166 dollars taking into account a 50% increase caused by the need to keep temperatures under control with air conditioning.
A single GeForce RTX 3080 has a hash rate of approx 83MH/s using the Ethash (Phoenix) algorithm, which should generate approx 0.22236870 ETH worth $ 165 per month. The whole system with 78 cards should generate a total of approx 17,3 ETH al mese, or about $ 12,840 per month. By subtracting the electricity costs, the profit drops to about $ 10,674 per month or $ 128,088 per year.
Really not bad, even if we would have preferred to see those cards in the hands of 78 gamers who would have used them for the purpose for which they were created.
