Early voting for the mid-term elections begins today.
The polls will be open from 9:00 to 17:00 today and tomorrow, and will run until 6 November.
The voting tables will be enabled again on election day, Tuesday 8 November.
Among the biggest contests is the government battle between incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul and Long Island Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin. Hochul took over after Andrew Cuomo resigned last year.
The positions of lieutenant governor, attorney general and state controller, as well as seats in the state assembly, state senate, and congress are also at stake.
On the other hand, the NYPD is asking its agents to remain vigilant in the polling stations, in this early voting early.
The NYPD says some disturbing conversations in online chats and encrypted messaging channels call for violence against elected officials and voters, as well as disrupting polling stations across the country.
Police Department Chief Kenneth Corey says there are no credible threats against any city officials or polling stations.
However, the police were assigned to polling stations for all major races.
This year, agents will be present in more than 11,000 polling stations in all five boroughs.
