Early Voting Begins August 13 – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – New Yorkers registered to vote don’t have to wait until August 23 to participate in the primary elections for the state Senate and Congress.

This is due to the fact that early voting will take place from August 13 to August 21. Voting sites will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m on August 13, 14, 15, 20 and 21; from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on August 16 and 17; on August 18 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; and from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm on August 19.

Over the summer, New York residents face two primary elections after redistricting rocked the state’s electoral maps and delayed the state House and Senate primaries until August.

THESE ARE THE KEY DATES

  • August 8 – Last day for your local County Board of Elections to receive an absentee ballot application for the August primary and special elections.
  • August 13-21: Early Voting.
  • August 23: Vote! Primaries for the state Congress and Senate

WHAT IS EARLY VOTING?

All New York voters can vote early in person before Election Day. Voting early is convenient, fast, and flexible.

When you arrive at the early voting location, you will register to vote, receive your ballot, and vote just like in any other election. Voting during early voting is the same as on Election Day, but if you choose to vote early, you cannot vote on Election Day.

WHEN DOES EARLY VOTING START AND HOURS?

From August 13 to August 21, early voting will take place.

Voting sites will be open as follows:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m on August 13, 14, 15, 20 and 21.
  • 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on August 16 and 17.
  • 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. m the 18th of August.
  • 7:00 am to 3:00 pm on August 19th.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EARLY VOTING?

Early voting gives voters more flexibility, reduces wait times on Election Day and eases the burden on poll workers, creating a more pleasant voting experience for everyone.

WHY IS EARLY VOTING GIVEN?

Early voting was signed into law by the Governor in 2019. It had bipartisan support in the State Senate and Assembly.

The deadline for a person who was a registered party member to change parties has passed. This was July 29 and your Board of Elections must receive the records by August 3.

WILL I KNOW WHO WON THE ELECTION ON ELECTION DAY?

Maybe, but don’t be surprised if we have to wait a few weeks. The Board of Elections can receive absentee ballots up to seven days after Election Day, so the results of some contests may not be known until all ballots have been received.

Monday, August 8 is the last day for your local County Board of Elections to receive an absentee ballot application for the August primary and special elections.
