Flat galaxies and their elliptical counterparts
Prepared by: Mohamed Ezzedine
American researchers affiliated with NASA revealed that galaxies were flat 600 million to 6 billion years ago, and were not in the shape we know today, “spiral or elliptical,” according to analysis of images taken by the James Webb Space Telescope.
“Fifty to 80 percent of the galaxies we studied were flat from two perspectives, which led us to believe that these flat, surfboard-shaped galaxies were common in the early universe, unlike galaxies,” said Viraj Pandya, NASA’s principal investigator. The distance, which looked like a ball.
He added: “The Milky Way galaxy is called a spiral galaxy with bars. Because it resembles a rotating frame of air when viewed from above or below, it would likely have appeared like a surfboard at that time, and some researchers have turned back time to estimate the mass of the Milky Way by billions of years, linked to the shape at that time.
He explained: “The flat and rectangular galaxies that were common in the early universe are smaller than spiral and elliptical galaxies, and the reason behind this difference in size is that galaxies in the early universe had less time to grow and evolve.”
