SUKABUMIUPDATE.com – From a dry cough to loss of the sense of smell, a number of unwell symptoms are known to be linked to Covid-19. Later, researchers from King’s College London, England, warned of some additional surprising symptoms that could be an early signal for the presence of a corona virus infection in the body.
Using data from the COVID Symptom Study application, the research team from the university compiled a list of the symptoms most frequently reported by Covid-19 patients in the first seven days they were infected with the virus. The hope is that it can enable people to detect viral infections earlier.
“It will enable people to initiate self-isolation as early as possible and stop accidental transmission of the viral infection,” said the team of researchers.
As a result, the study surprisingly gave rise to the two most commonly reported early symptoms of headache and fatigue. The researchers labeled the two as ‘dark horses with Covid-19 symptoms’.
Their data showed that the initial symptoms mentioned most often were headache (82 percent) and fatigue (72 percent). Reports of these two symptoms came from all age groups. “Only 9% of adults who are positive for Covid-19 aged 18-65 years do not experience headaches or fatigue.”
But, despite the large number of disclosures, only one percent of people who only reported fatigue and / or headaches on the app tested positive for Covid-19. Most are accompanied by other symptoms. “It shows that just headaches or fatigue or both are not enough to indicate Covid-19.”
In contrast, high fever, persistent dry cough and loss of smell were found to be strong early indicators of Covid-19. As many as 40 percent of all age groups reported having fever in the first seven days, and this symptom or loss of smell and coughing are still key symptoms to watch out for.
“So anyone who finds himself with these three classic symptoms should immediately seek a Covid-19 test,” the study said.
