Early parliamentary elections are being held in Spain on Sunday, July 23.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez decided to hold early elections in May after his Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) suffered a defeat in local elections.
Public opinion polls show that the conservative People’s Party will get the most votes in the parliamentary elections, which could receive the support of 32-36% of voters.
Socialists, on the other hand, could receive 28-29% of the vote.
Radical right party Vox (Balss) and a coalition of radical leftists Sumar (Unity) each can hope for 12.5-13.5% of the vote, polls show.
It is expected that after the elections, the leader of the People’s Party, Alberto Núñez Feijo, can become the prime minister, forming a coalition with Vox.
All 350 members of the lower house of parliament and 208 of the 265 members of the upper house of the Senate will be elected in Sunday’s elections.
Spain currently holds the presidency of the European Union.
