Dresden. Archaeologists from Dresden’s Friedrichstadt are gaining a hitherto hidden insight into the region’s history. Old stone walls, remnants of ceramic vessels and rotting wood panels – all of which provide experts with insights into when, where and how people lived in the area of today’s Friedrichstadt centuries ago.

Thomas Westphalen, responsible for the conservation of archaeological monuments in Saxony, talks about a unique find. “It is the first medieval village that has been found so far in the Dresden city area.” Why are excavations taking place and what should happen to the area in the future.
