Early in the morning Mr P Reluctant to stand up? Beware, it’s good to check the heart

Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is a condition in which the penis cannot get an erection or maintain an erection. The causes also vary, such as an unhealthy lifestyle, comorbidities, use of drugs, to environmental factors.

This condition generally cannot be ignored and must receive special treatment. Because, according to the andrology-urology consultant from the University of Indonesia Hospital, Dr. Widi Atmoko SpU(K), erectile dysfunction is an alarm or early sign of a risk factor for heart disease.

“Erectile dysfunction is an alarm or risk factor for cardiovascular disease in the next 3 years,” he said during a virtual webinar, Wednesday (22/6/2022).

This can happen because erectile dysfunction indicates a blood vessel disorder in the penis, so this condition can cause plaque to form.

“Because in the early stages of blood vessel disorders, which were due to cholesterol, hypertension, sugar, it will be like the appearance of plaque. If plaque occurs, the penis area is the first to be affected,” he continued.

“So the penis was the first to be hit, so if men have difficulty getting an erection, mainly due to organic factors because there are blood vessel disorders, now you have to be careful, actually there are plaques in the blood vessels on the body,” added Dr. Widi .

In addition, Dr. Widi also revealed that erectile dysfunction is one of the predictors of heart attacks in the next 3 to 5 years.

“If we look at research, erectile dysfunction increases the risk of heart disease and death rate by 1.25 to 1.6 times compared to normal. And this is one predictor of heart attacks in the next 3-5 years,” he concluded again.
