Liputan6.com, Jakarta – If breast cancer can be detected early with self-examination (SAMURI), oral cancer can be detected.
SAMURI is one way that can be done to detect oral cancer.
Unlike Realization which can only be done at certain times, SAMURI can be done at any time.
As an early detection step, a dentist specialist in oral surgery from the Jakarta Friendship General Hospital (RSUP), Astri Hapsari, suggested doing routine SAMURI in private.
“Recognize the early signs of oral cancer. That way it will automatically be detected early and the success of the treatment will also be even greater,” Astri said Health Radio Talk Show: Recognize the Early Signs of Oral Cavity Cancer some time ago.
The SAMURI stage is very simple, all that is needed is a mirror and enough lighting.
The first stage is to part the upper lip upwards, then touch, observe, and feel it on the inner lip and upper gums.
“What must be checked is whether there is a change in color, shape, elasticity, pain, lumps, or swelling in the mouth,” said Astri
After that, do the same thing on the lower lip, the area inside the mouth, the area behind the inside of the cheek, the roof, and the gums.
“Next, stick out the tongue as much as we can then observe the upper surface or the back of the tongue. What is being checked is still the same,” he continued.
SAMURI should be done once a month. Meanwhile, for routine checks to the doctor ideally done every 6 months.
