Tonight the Consultation Committee will already consider stricter corona measures. A general lockdown is not yet imminent, although there are French-speaking votes to introduce a ban on non-essential movements. Stricter rules for sports, culture and events will be introduced anyway.

“No new general lockdown,” said Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) in the House this afternoon. But stricter measures are on the way anyway.
A digital meeting will take place at 8 pm with representatives of the various governments in our country. That meeting was originally scheduled in preparation for tomorrow’s Consultation Committee. But new figures about hospital admissions and drop-out of care staff put too much pressure on the boiler: waiting until tomorrow is no longer possible. Various politicians therefore confirm to our editorial staff that there is an expectation to lay down new measures tonight or tonight.

The much-discussed coronabarometer will not be published. “It makes no sense to agree at this point in the crisis which measures apply at level 3”, can be heard in the Wetstraat. There are, however, new rules in the pipeline for sports, culture and events, because the intention is indeed to make further cuts in social life.
Should politicians fail to reach consensus this evening, there will be an additional meeting tomorrow. In any case, tomorrow the government will communicate widely to the population and to the press.
