Eamonn Holmes, the Northern Irish television presenter, has criticised former This Morning co-presenter Phillip Schofield following his recent admission that he was gay and had an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague. Speaking in the second part of a recent interview with GB News presenter Dan Wootton, Holmes said that he and his wife were “lied to” about Schofield’s sexuality ahead of the presenter’s on-air announcement. Holmes accused his former employer ITV of double standards, citing the fact that he was not permitted to promote chocolate on the programme, despite Schofield being allowed to sign lucrative advertising contracts. Earlier this year, a former resident doctor on This Morning accused the show’s culture of being “toxic” and claimed to have raised concerns about bullying and discrimination.
