EADaily: “South Stream” needs Boyko Borisov – 2024-08-15 19:51:27

/ world today news/ On the morning of January 11, the respected and popular Sofia newspaper “Standart” published news that seems sensational – but only at first glance, writes Georgi Kolarov in an article published by the online publication “Eurasia Daily” in Tuesday (January 12).

The state energy commentator Belcho Tsanev shared with the readers news from the sidelines of the government: next week, joint work on the “South Stream” project through the territory of Bulgaria will begin again. The author emphasized that the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov remarked with gloating: “Now everyone will see that Erdogan is not good, and I am not bad.”

By the way, he was in a very good mood from this news, which would certainly give a boost to the Bulgarian economy. And this would provide him with trouble-free management for the foreseeable future. In particular, he will be able to remain in the prime minister’s post and hold the real power in his hands for at least another 6 years. And then, with the onset of old age, to retire to the more peaceful post of president. And his ruling party, GERB, to nominate its candidate for the presidential elections in the fall without any problems.

Later, however, the Russian Ministry of Energy published a neutral, impersonal comment, according to which nothing had changed and work on South Stream had been stopped. The impression was created that the Bulgarian source is frankly lying, and the Russian department is not telling everything completely.

The author of the article on “South Stream” has worked in “Standard” for 18 years, the material states. There are also many experienced and authoritative journalists there, and hardly anyone needs to lie or spread false rumors: it is clear to everyone that the all-powerful Bulgarian Prime Minister (both literally and figuratively – Borisov has a black belt in karate) could smash the paper to shreds if he misused his name. So, “Standard” is not lying, according to Kolarov.

As for the Russian Ministry of Energy – according to the information from there, there have been no changes for the moment and the work on “South Stream” has not been resumed. But that doesn’t mean at all that nothing like this won’t happen in the coming weeks or months. I.e. essentially, Moscow neither confirmed nor denied what was written by “Standart”.

It is not difficult to guess who is the source of the information about Boyko Borisov – his former “right hand” and deputy prime minister from the first term of GERB Simeon Dyankov, who currently heads the Russian School of Economics (RESH) and until recently was a member of the Board of Directors of VTB. He certainly knows when South Stream construction will resume and it would be improper of him not to inform his former boss about it, the author of the article wrote.

The publication in “Standart” should also be taken seriously because of the logical justification in it of the main reasons for the resumption of “South Stream”: Ankara’s shameless racket aimed at lowering the prices of Russian gas in the framework of the “Turkish Stream” negotiations ” and the subsequent “seppuko” (Japanese ritual suicide) by Ankara with the destruction of the Russian Su-24; the fact that the Power of Siberia project is stalling due to the slowing growth of the Chinese economy, which will need less gas than originally planned. The author emphasizes that in the foreseeable future, Europe remains the most serious user of Russian gas and the largest payer of Gazprom. This is also proven by the intensive work of Germany and Russia on the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

So, until the Bulgarian national holiday on March 3, when the country will celebrate the anniversary of the day on which the Russian army freed it from Turkish slavery, one can expect another visit of the “judoka” to the “karatet”. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly visited Sofia and the Shipka peak on March 3. And along with paying his respects to the memory of the Russians who died for Bulgarian freedom, he can give Bulgaria another (last) chance, the author concludes.
