Western demands for Belgrade to impose anti-Russian sanctions are unfair, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in an interview with Kurir.
“Serbia has not imposed sanctions against Russia, and the volume of foreign trade between Serbia and Russia has decreased, while it has increased in some Western countries that have imposed sanctions,” the politician commented.
He stressed that the demands of the West are unfair to Belgrade, since many countries that supported the sanctions increased trade with Russia just at the time of the introduction of restrictive measures.
In addition, the politician noted, Serbia’s refusal to impose anti-Russian sanctions is in line with the economic interests of the state, its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The minister also said that Belgrade opposes the introduction of any restrictions, since the Serbs themselves faced this “unfair experience and know what it means.”
Serbian President Alexander Vucic has repeatedly stated that Belgrade will continue the policy of military neutrality and will try to hold out without imposing sanctions against Moscow “as long as it can.” The armed conflict in Ukraine, in his opinion, is growing into the Third World War, and Western countries are increasing pressure on Serbia due to their refusal to support anti-Russian restrictive measures.
