On March 26, the legendary Nikolai Lukyanovich Dupak, the director of the Taganka Theater from 1963 to 1990, passed away, that is, during its heyday, when Yuri Lyubimov was artistic director for most of this period. He announced this on his page in the social network Department of Culture of Moscow.
“On March 26, the Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, theater director, honorary art worker of the city of Moscow, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Nikolai Lukyanovich Dupak passed away,” the department said in a statement.
Member of the Great Patriotic War, most of all Nikolai Dupak became famous as the legendary director of the Taganka Theater, he held this position from 1963 to 1990 (with a break in 1977-1978, when he worked as the director of the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya).
It was Nikolai Dupak who invited the famous actor and bard to the Taganka Theater Vladimir Vysotsky.
“Yuri Petrovich Lyubimov categorically did not want to hire Volodya Vysotsky”, – recalled Nikolai Dupak in a monologue for the 80th anniversary of the actor and singer.
“Then we worked on“ A Hero of Our Time ”, put on a performance for the anniversary Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov. Vysotsky was given a tiny video of the staff captain. There it was necessary to say one phrase: “Nature is a fool, fate is a turkey, and life is a penny, well, you are a fool, brother.” He did everything just brilliantly and stayed in the theater,” – said Nikolai Lukyanovich.
Dupak also played in films and theater, staged theatrical performances. In his filmography – participation in 69 film projects. These are such films as “Captain Nemo” (Colonel Bunro), “Bumbarash” (Red Army soldier Sovkov), “The Ballad of the Valiant Knight Ivanhoe” (Abbot Eimer), “Love with Privileges” (Chairman of the Council of Ministers), etc.
Already in the 90s, the theater “Commonwealth of Taganka Actors”, despite its advanced age, invited Nikolai Dupak to the post of director. But Nikolai Dupak replied that he would be able to accept the offer only if the Taganka Theater and the Taganka Actors Commonwealth unite. Unfortunately, this did not happen, so Nikolai Dupak did not accept the offer.
