EADaily: Finnish Authorities Detain Russian Vessel Carrying Fertilizers, Marking a Historic Event.

In Finland, the Russian ship Smew was detained with 20 thousand tons of fertilizers, reports today, March 22, the Readovka telegram channel with reference to the Finnish YLE.

The total market value of the consignment arrested in the port of Kotka is estimated at € 12 million. According to the publication, the cargo allegedly belongs to a Russian oligarch who fell under the sanctions, whose name is not advertised. The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now investigating whether the ship can obtain emergency permission to leave the port.

It is noted that this is the first case in Finland of the arrest of Russian fertilizers due to sanctions.

As reported EADaily , earlier the EU allowed indulgence, allowing some persons subject to sanctions to use, as an exception, funds or assets, if they are needed to ensure the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to third countries. Facilitating the unblocking of Russian fertilizer exports is part of the UN commitments under the grain deal, which was concluded with the participation of Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
