EA wants you to be able to voice video game characters

We assume you all know how it is: a patent does not necessarily mean that it is actually technology that will be used. Having said that, patents still give us indications of what game companies are working on and what ideas they have for the future, and EA has now provided a good example of this.

As noted by Idle Sloth on X, EA has patented a way to “let the players themselves vote for characters in the game”. It is simply a system that records your speech content and then generates your voice for use in a video game. That way, you don’t have to choose a voice for your character in an RPG, as you can make the main character sound exactly like you.

Of course, this can also be used in sports games, such as when you create a football ace in the next EA Sports FC title, or perhaps your Battlefield soldier. You’re really only limited by your imagination, but how interested are you in having video game characters that sound exactly like you?
