EA wants to acquire smartphone game maker Glu Mobile for $ 2.1 billion – Gaming – News

EA has reached an agreement with Glu Mobile for an acquisition. The publisher pays 2.1 billion dollars for the maker of smartphone games. Glu Mobile includes a Kim Kardashian game in its portfolio.

Glu Mobile was founded in 2001 and has nearly 800 employees. The company had sales of $ 544 million with its mobile games last year. Glu Mobile is known for a Kim Kardashian game that appeared in 2014, but also has titles such as Design Home, Covet Fashion and a mobile version of Deer Hunter in its portfolio.

With the acquisition of Glu Mobile, Electronic Arts is investing heavily in smartphone games. The company says revenue from existing Glu Mobile franchises will nearly double the revenue from EA’s smartphone games. EA’s own smartphone titles such as Bejeweled, Real Racing and FIFA mobile games generated sales of $ 779 million last year.

According to EA the acquisition is expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year. Shareholders of Glu Mobile have yet to approve and the parties are awaiting regulatory approval.
