EA suddenly fired over 200 testers in Zoom call, according to media reports

The laid-off workers mostly worked at the Respawn studio on the Apex Legends battle royale.

Kotaku reports that Electronic Arts has laid off more than 200 Respawn Entertainment QA staff who worked primarily on Apex Legends. The interlocutors of the portal reported that the dismissal was sudden and unforeseen, since some of the employees who fell under the reduction just a few hours before finished their night shifts.

EA contractor Magnit Global invited testers to an unscheduled Zoom call, inviting them to use a computer or smartphone. During the conversation, all employees of the company’s office in the city of Baton Rouge were fired.

The dismissal shocked not only the testers themselves, but also their leaders, who were not notified in advance. Workers who have been made redundant will be given a 60-day severance pay and will be allowed to pick up things from the office, but only under close supervision of the security service.
