EA Sports FC 24 marks the first release for EA’s soccer series without the FIFA brand. 30 years after the first game (December 15, 1993), EA has decided to no longer work with FIFA from now on for a multitude of reasons, including very high licensing fees.
The end of the collaboration between EA and FIFA means that previous titles in the FIFA franchise can no longer be sold. Sure, you can still find physical copies of old FIFA titles in stores, but when it comes to the digital side, you’re out of luck. Starting today, EA has removed all of its FIFA titles from digital stores, including the Nintendo Switch eShop. Only EA left SPORTS™ FIFA 23 Nintendo Switch™ Essential Edition listed on the eShop. Although the titles are still listed on Nintendo’s website, the option to purchase has been removed. It’s the same thing on other consoles… the end of an era.
