EA Confirms Problems With FIFA Ultimate Team. Player accounts were stolen due to employee error

Electronic Arts confirmed the situation from the FIFA Ultimate Team servers. Fraudsters could actually steal accounts full of coins and valuable cards due to errors of EA employees.

The surprising news came out last week regarding FIFA Ultimate Team. Famous players dealing in the sale of valuable cards presented information according to which their accounts were seized. Thieves were given access to overflowing FUT coins and valuable profile cards, and changed their passwords at first to then trade the assets of the real owners.

According to some players, the problem was the employees of Electronic Arts, who easily presented all the necessary data so that the person could take over the acquired property – it was enough to contact the technical support to receive an e-mail and password to the account.

Some players did not believe that EA could not take care of such basics, but today the publisher confirmed the situation:

“Thanks to our preliminary investigation, we can confirm that a number of accounts have been stolen using phishing techniques. [metoda oszustwa polegająca na podszywaniu się pod inną osobę – red.]. Using threats and other ‘social engineering’ methods, dishonest people were able to exploit human error in our customer service team and bypass two-factor authentication to gain access to other players’ accounts. “

Electronic Arts estimates that the problem affected fewer than 50 accounts, and now the publisher is working on identifying the real owners and restoring their access to profiles. The corporation is investigating this.

This is undoubtedly a surprising situation that shows that sometimes even two-factor authentication is not completely secure.
