EA Announces Internal Restructuring, Creates EA Sports and Renames EA Games as EA Entertainment

EA, one of the leading video game publishers, has announced a major internal restructuring that will result in the company being split into two separate organizations: EA Sports and EA Games, which has been renamed EA Entertainment. The move is aimed at empowering studio leaders with more creative ownership and financial accountability, allowing them to make faster and more insightful decisions regarding development and go-to-market strategies.

In a statement on EA’s website, CEO Andrew Wilson expressed his belief that these changes will accelerate the company’s business, drive growth, and deliver long-term value for their employees, players, and communities. The new leadership team, which will be working closely with their respective studios in the coming months, is expected to implement the newly announced organizational changes.

Under the new structure, Laura Miele has been appointed as the president of EA Entertainment, Technology & Central Development. The games leadership team will remain largely unchanged, with Vince Zampella overseeing Apex Legends, Star Wars games, and the Battlefield franchise, Samantha Ryan responsible for lifestyle franchises and blockbuster single-player experiences, and Jeff Karp leading EA Entertainment’s mobile teams.

On the EA Sports side, Cam Weber has been named president of the organization, with responsibilities including genre-leading EA Sports experiences and the entire racing portfolio. David Tinson will lead the EA Experiences team, while former chief experiences officer Chris Bruzzo is retiring. Additionally, chief financial officer Chris Suh will be departing, and Stuart Canfield will take over his role.

This restructuring comes as part of a series of changes for EA, which previously laid off around six percent of its workforce in March. In June, further job losses were reported, impacting up to two-thirds of employees at the Need for Speed: No Limits studio, Firemonkeys.

Overall, EA’s internal shakeup aims to provide more autonomy and accountability to its studio leaders, ultimately driving growth and delivering value to its stakeholders.
