€40,000 in bonuses for the Bleuets and how much for Thierry Henry?

Thierry Henry will also be financially rewarded for his Olympic tournament.

At the end of a thrilling final from start to finish, the French football team lost this Friday to Spain, after extra time (3-5, 3-3 at the end of regulation time), in the final of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The performance is worth the Bleuets to claim a bonus, as promised by the French Government to all athletes who won medals during the Olympiad. All, including those in the French football team, the substitutes who may not have played in the final.

Second in the football tournament, the Bleuets will receive €40,000 in bonuses

The reward grid provides that a silver medal brings 40,000 euros to those who obtain it. It is double, that is 80,000 euros for gold and half (20,000 euros), the bronze for third place.

On the other hand, this system does not concern the technical staff. Which is in fact rewarded on a smaller scale than the athletes on the field. In Tokyo, three years ago, the Government planned that coaches would receive the equivalent of half the bonus of their protégé(s). This has changed for these Games, in its latest circular, the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games announces that “the amount of bonuses awarded to the management has been revalued”.

More than €20,000 and less than €40,000 in bonuses for Thierry Henry

However, he does not give the precise numerical details but explains that this amount is “set at a proportion equal to the amount of the bonus of the medal-winning athlete they supported, compared to 50% previously”. He distinguishes three hierarchical levels in the supervisory body, which he calls “circle”. The first corresponds to that of Thierry Henry with his footballers, the definition being: “The people carrying out the missions of head coach in charge of the sports project of the medal-winning athlete and/or his personal coach”.

So understand that the former AS Monaco coach will receive between double and the equivalent of the players’ bonus, i.e. more than 20,000 and less than 40,000 euros, for his overall performance. This bonus is naturally unrelated to his salary from the French Football Federation, as national coach of the hopefuls.
