E3 2021 canceled according to city of Los Angeles document

According to a document from the Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development Department, the physical event of E3 2021 has been officially canceled.

As noticed VGC, a new report released by the board of directors of the Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development Commission says the E3 2021 event is canceled and the city is “working with the production team on broadcast options at LA Live / LACC . In addition, work has reportedly started with ESA for projects for 2022 and 2023.

This follows ESA’s confirmation that E3 2021 will still be ongoing and that ESA will “transform the E3 experience for 2021.”

An ESA spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we are transforming the E3 experience for 2021 and will share specific details soon on how we will bring the global gaming community together. We have great conversations with publishers, developers, and companies across all industries, and we look forward to sharing the details of their participation soon. “

While many have surmised that this meant E3 would go digital in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, ESA never explicitly said the physical event would be canceled.

VGC also detailed some presentation materials for E3 2021 which revealed that this revamped show will include “multiple two-hour presentation sessions of the game partners, an awards show, a preview night on the 14th. June and other small broadcasts from game publishers, influencers and media partners ”.
