E18, Transport | MDG with an ultimatum to the Labor Party on the E18 development in Bærum

MDG calls the development of the E18 a “transport policy from the last century” and will not support a toll guarantee. It could mean the end for the county council in Viken.

The county council currently consists of the Labor Party, the Center Party, the Socialist People’s Party and the Green Party and is dependent on the MDGs’ mandates to have a majority.

In an ultimatum that was adopted on Friday by the MDG’s county council group, it is stated that if the county council adopts such a toll guarantee, there will no longer be a basis for the MDG to remain in the county council.

Viken must guarantee future toll revenues for the development to go smoothly.

The construction of the new motorway section between Lysaker and Ramstadsletta at Høvik in Bærum is dependent on Oslo and Viken providing the necessary local financial guarantee.

Does not come up

– The platform we negotiated after our fall election last year is crystal clear: the E18 project for the government is not wanted in Viken. Therefore, a county municipal toll guarantee for the project is out of the question, says Kristoffer Robin Haug in a comment to NTB. He is MDG’s county councilor for public transport in Viken.

– Cutting greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution and car traffic is more important now than ever. Viken’s collective investment cannot consist of big words and gigantic motorways, says Haug.

Decides on Monday

– What MDG thinks about E18, is widely known, says the county council’s leader Tonje Brenna (Labor) to NRK.

– The county council will decide on Monday what we think about the guarantee for E18. Then we will see on Monday what that decision will be. I will not speculate about that now, she continues.

Bård Hoksrud, FRP’s transport policy spokesperson and first deputy chair of the Transport and Communications Committee in the Storting, hopes Viken will build a new E18.

Unfortunately, the MDGs, the Labor Party and the Socialist People’s Party have gained support for a poorer capacity on the road than the proposal Jon Georg Dale presented to the Storting. So MDG has got what they want, people who are dependent on the car, will have to spend more time of their lives in line in the future, he says to NTB. (© NTB)
