“Without strong and direct support for producers, the future of organic farming is compromised”, warns the Confédération paysanne.
“While the situation of many farmers, in many productions (milk, pork, eggs, fruit and vegetables, etc.), continues to worsen, the Peasant Confederation has been proposing emergency measures to support them for a year. Apart from support for promotional campaigns to stimulate consumption, the Minister of Agriculture gave an end of inadmissibility during the Assises de la bio”, regrets the union in a press release of February 6.
“The Confédération paysanne nevertheless continues to collect very difficult situations on the ground and to bring them up to the prefectures. Thus in the Great West, many breeders are reporting sharp drops in cash flow, for 2022 compared to 2021. Producers work without remuneration or even at a loss, leading to a lot of despair and inevitable cessation of activity. Our repeated warning signals to the government would however have made it possible to anticipate and avoid these extreme situations. »
“Organic ambition” at this price
“Organic farming is an agricultural model that has proven itself and which makes it possible to respond to environmental and societal challenges. However, it is the political and financial arbitrations that determine the agricultural surface area, the number of farmers as well as the share of organic in our food. Without strong and direct support for producers and support for the sectors, the future of organic farming is compromised. »
Once again, we call on Minister Marc Fesneau and the government to take stock of the situation and take courageous decisions now to safeguard the production link. The Confédération paysanne therefore reiterates its request for emergency aid of €15,000 for all organic farmers. This would be more than consistent given the investments made by France to develop and structure organic farming from farms to distribution, including collective catering. This was indeed the initial objective of the ambition bio program which must be renewed soon, ”concludes the press release.
