JawaPos.com – Garena with its flagship game Free Fire participated in the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua. Free Fire is one of the E-Sports sports titles that are competed in an exhibition format, in the biggest sporting event at the national level.
Christian Wihananto, Free Fire Indonesia Game Producer expressed his pride at the appointment of Free Fire as one of the official E-Sports titles included in the XX PON exhibition. According to him, Garena Free Fire has supported the development of Indonesia’s E-Sports ecosystem in finding superior seeds for E-Sports athletes since 2018.
“We continue to strengthen this commitment through our mission to develop esports into a competitive sport in the national and international arena that makes the nation proud, just like badminton or football,” he said.
He continued, a separate achievement for Garena with the presence of Free Fire in the XX Papua PON exhibition is proof that E-Sports in Indonesia has grown rapidly from just a hobby or entertainment, and is now a competitive sport that is officially recognized by the Government and the people of Indonesia. .
Since the registration for PON XX Papua for Free Fire was officially opened on 20 August, there have been more than 17,010 E-Sports players who have joined and demonstrated their respective skills in the Pre-PON round.
After a fierce match which was divided into three (3) groups and one group of pre-PON wildcards, eleven representative teams from various provinces were selected to qualify for the final round of PON XX Papua.
