Berlin (AP) – The Counter-Strike-Club Oglum surprised twice on the last day of the 99Liga season 18: In the lower bracket final, the team initially defeated defending champion No Limit Gaming 2-1. In the final, CC Oglum prevailed 2-0 (16:13; 16:12) against favorite Cowana Gaming.
“I said from the start that we would win 2-0. We just knew that we were the better players,” said CC Oglum player Markus “maRky” Reitbach after the final. “We didn’t start the final so well, but that happens when you’ve played three cards before. But in the end it was enough.”
CC Oglum is the last winner of the 99Liga for the time being. From next year, the two German top leagues, 99Liga and ESL Championship, will merge to form the joint ESL Championship by 99Damage.
But the end of the season is not only over for the 99Liga, but also for CC Oglum. The team will no longer exist in the future, says Marky. “We’ll go our separate ways, the players will definitely find a new home before next season.”
