The accident happened around 11:40 p.m. in Salzburg’s Neustadt district. According to the police report, the 55-year-old driver wanted to get over a raised sidewalk edge with his e-scooter and fell in the process
Injured e-scooter driver taken to hospital
He suffered injuries of indefinite degree and had to be taken to the Salzburg University Hospital with the ambulance. The alcohol test carried out brought a result of a whopping 2.26 per thousand in the blood.
As with bicycles, the alcohol limit on e-scooters is 0.8 per mille. The 55-year-old is threatened with a complaint and an ordinary fine.
The rules for e-scooters
Incidentally, the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology has the following Rules of conduct for scooter riders issued:
Age limit: Please note the statutory age limit of 12 years or 9 or 10 years as a holder of a cycling license. For younger children, an accompanying person of at least 16 years of age must be present. In play and residential streets that are closed to all vehicle traffic, children are allowed to use them unaccompanied.
Small electric scooters must be equipped as follows:
- with an effective braking device,
- with reflectors or reflecting foils that appear in white to the front, red to the rear and yellow to the side, as well as,
- in the dark and with poor visibility with white light to the front and red taillight.
Sidewalks: Driving on sidewalks and sidewalks is prohibited. Exception: The competent authority can, however, permit driving on sidewalks and sidewalks. If this is the case, however, these traffic areas may not be driven on at more than walking speed. Such an exception is announced on the official notice board; the municipality can also provide further information. There is no provision for a separate traffic sign.
In-Street Ped Crossing: Driving on protective paths to cross the carriageway is prohibited.
Pedestrian zone: Driving in pedestrian zones with small electric scooters is strictly prohibited. However, if cycling is permitted, small electric scooters can also be used there, whereby the speed must be adapted to the pedestrian traffic.
Behaviour rules:
- On all traffic areas on which the use of small electric scooters is permitted, one may only behave in such a way that other road users are neither endangered nor hindered. In particular – if driving is permitted in exceptional cases – walking pace must be observed on sidewalks and sidewalks and the speed in pedestrian zones, in residential streets and in meeting areas must be adapted to pedestrian traffic.
- Two people are not allowed to ride the small e-scooter!
- Permitted speed: In pedestrian zones, residential streets and on sidewalks, the speed must be adapted to the existing pedestrian traffic. The more pedestrians, the slower you have to drive.
Off: Small electric scooters must be set up in such a way that they cannot fall over or obstruct traffic. They can also be parked on bike racks.
By the way: Incorrectly parked e-scooters can be a dangerous trip hazard, especially for visually impaired people, as the Association for the Blind announced. He therefore started an action to point out the danger and to advertise safe parking. Incorrectly parked electric scooters should be provided with a flyer during the campaign, which indicates the wrongdoing.
