The ASEAN electric vehicle market is set to expand significantly, projected to reach USD 2.7 billion by 2027, a considerable rise from USD 500 million in 2021. Notably, sales of EVs swelled fourfold in 2023, with ongoing trends indicating substantial growth in the early quarters of 2024.
Malaysia’s ambition to become a leading EV hub is underscored by its electrification roadmap, aiming for 60% of public transport to be green and 80% of car sales to be EVs by 2050. “E-mobility is positioned for substantial growth in ASEAN as decarbonization is essential for governments to meet climate goals,” remarked Ms. Vicky Tan, Project Director at Derrisen. “EMA is excited to contribute to this green transformation, collaborating with various industry organizations.”
