E. Mitrofanova: The Americans have set the task of pushing Russia out of Bulgaria – 2024-04-17 18:47:12

/ world today news/ The case against the leader of Russophiles Nikolay Malinov showed that Sofia follows an anti-Russian course

The Americans have obviously set the task of pushing Russia out of all spheres of Bulgarian life. This is what Moscow’s ambassador to our country, Eleonora Mitrofanova, says in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“I think this is not a completely independent story, of course, for Sofia. Who in Big Brother is behind these expulsions (of Russian diplomats)? It is, of course, the Americans, who have clearly set the task of pushing Russia out of all spheres of Bulgarian life,” she said.

According to her, Washington will not be able to achieve this goal, since the two countries are connected by ties of spiritual kinship and a common historical past.

Mitrofanova adds that it is unlikely that the countries will reach the level of lowering or severing diplomatic relations.

Recently, Bulgaria has expelled Russian diplomats several times. At the end of March, two embassy employees were declared persona non grata, to which Moscow responded in kind. At the end of April, Sofia declared persona non grata for the Russian assistant to the military attaché in light of suspicions against Russia in the bombings of warehouses in Bulgaria.

Mitrofanova also commented on the accusation of espionage against the head of the “Rusophiles” movement in Bulgaria, Nikolay Malinov. According to her, it suggested that Sofia was following an anti-Russian course.

“The fact that Nikolai Malinov is accused of espionage for the benefit of Russian non-governmental organizations is a very serious accusation, as serious as it is baseless. Unfortunately, it suggests that Sofia is following an anti-Russian course,” she says.

Moscow’s ambassador noted that since Malinov will now be nominated for the presidency of Bulgaria, there should be no court hearings on his case during the presidential campaign.

“We, as an embassy, are monitoring the entire trial against Malinov. Our diplomat was at the first court session. We consider the accusations to be groundless and we hope that the court will clarify everything impartially,” emphasizes Mitrofanova.
